dust

We don’t like dust any more than the next person.
We know it’s something that people are worried about and we’re working hard to reduce dust emissions from our mines.

Just like agriculture, construction and other industrial activities, dust is a side-effect of what we do. But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing we can do about it. We’re investing in technology like real-time air and weather monitoring, smarter mine design and rehabilitation during mining to limit the amount of land disturbed at any one time.

Right now, we’re working with government to benchmark and apply best practices from around the world. We’re pioneering new ways to seed overburden from the air to bind soil with vegetation and protect it from the wind.

We’re leading the way by using new dust suppressants on our unsealed roads and tailing dams. And we’re investing in a monitoring network to find out more about air quality in the Upper Hunter.
