Training and job opportunities for Indigenous people
October 31, 2011

A partnership between Barrick Limited and the Wiradjuri Traditional Owners was formed as part of a native title agreement in 2003.

It created real opportunities for Wiradjuri people through a Study Centre that aims to boost employment for the local Indigenous community in fields like mining, construction and transport. The Australian Government has also contributed funds towards the Study Centre which has recently been officially opened.

The Study Centre also features a Cultural Centre, Keeping Place, Conservation and Environment Centre, Wellness Centre and sporting facilities. The Centre works with existing local health services to improve health and wellbeing among the Indigenous community, by providing assistance to deal with alcohol and drug misuse.

The state-of-the-art facility helps overcome barriers to employment for local Indigenous people who receive industry specific, accredited qualifications.
