Sydney jobs in mining boom
May 18, 2012

There are at least 3,800 Sydney businesses supplying the industry, from manufacturing and mechanics to professional services like environmental science and education and training.

When most of us think about mining, we think about people working in regional NSW, but there are also more than 7,000 workers employed directly in mining across Sydney according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics plus many more in businesses supplying our miners.

Mining is the fastest growing industry for jobs in NSW. The number of miners has more than doubled in the past four years to almost 50,000. As mining grows, so too will opportunities for the services and manufacturing sector in Sydney and regional NSW, which is good for the rest of the economy. One example is FlexCo in Baulkham Hills which manufactures components for conveyer belt systems used in mining operations in NSW and across Australia.

Almost everyone is connected to mining in one way or another, whether it is through your job, government services supported by mining royalties, through shares or superannuation funds or even the power that we all use which is generated from coal produced by our world class miners.
