Located 15 kilometres east of Boggabri in the State’s Northwest, Whitehaven Coal’s Canyon Mine finished operations in June 2009. But thanks to the work done during the life of the mine, full rehabilitation was successfully completed in just one year, with the site now under closure and maintenance.

There’s more to mining than just mining. You’d be surprised at some of the things our miners are doing. Things that we’re incredibly proud of. Like helping build stronger communities, innovative technology, world-leading safety and new practices to reduce our impact on the environment.
Everyone knows we create jobs and generate money for the NSW economy – 93,000 people directly employed, over 325,000 indirectly plus $1.2 billion a year in royalties to the NSW Government that helps pay for nurses, teachers and police. But we won’t rest, because it’s not enough to be only good for the economy. We want to be good for NSW.
