Miners help give students 'Life Education'
May 08, 2012

The Life Education program teaches students about effective communication, peer resistance, and how to say “no” to drugs and alcohol.

Life Education is supported by coal miners BHP Billiton Illawarra Coal in the Illawarra and BHP Billiton Mt Arthur Coal in the Hunter Valley.

The Illawarra Coal Community Partnerships Program has helped Wollondilly primary school students visit the Life Education mobile learning centre at a subsidised cost.

Mt Arthur Coal’s partnership with Hunter Life Education has meant that more than 95 per cent of primary school children in Muswellbrook, Aberdeen and surrounding communities have been taught about the dangers of drugs and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Without support from the Hunter Valley coal miner, these students would need to travel to Newcastle to access the program.
