Mining has been carried out on this site west of Newcastle for over 150 years, which had affected the land.
Glencore Xstrata has used innovative design and engineering techniques to re-establish Maryland Creek which was diverted many years ago in the development of the mine site.

The site has been successfully remediated, removing old infrastructure, filling old mine shafts and re-shaping the land. Contaminated material has been removed and re-used as fuel at a local power station and the site is being prepared for future land use, which may include conservation areas and urban use.
